Arvin High School
Arvin High School, Arvin, California was built in 1949 and the first graduating class was in 1952. Prior to 1949 all students traveled by bus to Bakersfield, California and attended KC High School(Kern County HS) which is now called BHS or Bakersfield High School. Arvin High School was to include students from Arvin and surrounding areas, Lamont, Weed Patch, Meridian and many students living in the rural areas. Arvin is an agriculture town and many students and their parents lived on farms.
Arvin HIgh was built as a model school, having a double wide gymnaisum, cafeteria, snack bar, nice classrooms, good football and baseball fields. It had wood shop facilities, auto mechanics, plus an AG department. The ciriculum was outstanding, students could major in business, science, literature, mathematics, etc. The students had the choice to take college preparitory classes. They could take advantage of many elective classes. All in all when the students left Arvin high they were prepared to take on responsibility. Prepared for the work force or for college.
