First and foremost I want
people to know I am a Christian. My life is not so very different from millions
of other widows. I keep myself busy with church activities, work, and family.
My hobbies are crafts, I love to travel, I am forced into yard work but am not
very good at it. Whenever I retire I plan to begin a new career, either by
volunteering or taking on part time work in order to do some
traveling.
I have worked for the Federal
Government on Fort Bragg, NC for the last 25 years and grew up in the computer
age, but I still am a novice.
I came to Fort Bragg with my husband
Samuel E. Walls. He was in the class of 1957, but joined the Army and did not
graduate. We were married September after I graduated in June. We spent a year
at Fort Campbell, KY and bore our first son, Richard. Richard is a correctional
officer in the KY prison system. In November 1959 we landed in France and spent
three years there with the Army. Our daughter Diana was born in France. She is
here in Fayetteville and lives on the same street. When she was five months old
we were sent to Fort Bragg and have remained. We have one other son, Joseph.
He was born at Fort Bragg and lives in KY a few miles from his older brother.
I have worked for the Staff Judge
Advocate (those are the lawyers in the Army) for the last 17 years. I am
thinking of retiring in October, but have not completely made up my mind. I
enjoy what I do and it helps put food on the table.
Sam died one Sunday morning in September
2002. So I keep myself busy with my church work and my work on Fort Bragg. If
I had not known the Lord Jesus Christ as my Savior I would not know how I could
of survived these last few years. But with Him I find everyday and new
beginning filled with life and so many wonderful people. I continue to be
amazed how God could create so much for His children.
